Brazil’s different climates

In geography we talked again about the extraordinary range of natural environments in Brazil – from tropical rainforest to desert to wetlands to savannah to fertile grassland.

Amazon rainforest
Pampa – fertile grassland
Pantanal – wetlands
Caatinga – semi-desert
Cerrado – savannah
Mata Atlantic – forest

Then we discussed the difference between weather and climate and the children used climate data to plot graphs of average temperature and rainfall in different areas of Brazil.  Not surprisingly, we found there were big differences between regions, with some having a hot and wet climate all year around and others with long dry seasons.
